No problem opening and closeing doors but you would have to hold them open to keep them from closeing. One way of doing it is,cut a full cover to follow conture and cover front of case. Split cover at center to make two doors. Starting at mid-radius of top corners,cut each door top to bottom parallel with center cut. Permanatly mount odd shape pieces from last cut on each side of front. You can now see how to mount surface hinges.

as long as the pins are in a continuous straight line with each other. But in your situation the doors will angle upwards when open.If you wanted the doors to be level, the upper hinge would need much broader leaves than the lower one; again, the hinge pins would follow a straight, but now plumb, line.

I know it would be like gull-wing doors ? So was wondering if there was a hinge that swivelled at the connection point just to make the doors open normally ? But as that is proving allusive I suspect I may have to go for a simple drop down or indeed flip up ?

How bout spring loaded hinges that hold open instead of self-close?
