Here are pictures of the 4 plants.

This one has had good blooms but I think the root system is too tiny to support the flowers in the heat. At least I hope that is what it is and the color retention will improve as the root system gets larger. You can see on the left that there is a large candelabra with alot of blooms.

This one is the one that the 9 candelabra came away from. It has gotten the largest out of all three.

This one is smaller. I think it isn't getting enough water. But even it insists on sending out blooms.

This one tried to bloom earlier but then a rabbit ate all the leaves and blooms off. It looked like a bare twig. We dug it up and relocated it and then surrounded it by a wire cage. It is leafing out nicely and looks to have some very small blooms forming.

I really like the color of the blooms on the Chuckles rose. In addition, they have been blooming since I put them in pretty much non-stop which is what I was hoping for when I selected this rose.

Looks lovely and so tiny to have blooms already.

What a pretty little rose ! I've never heard of that before. Glad it's doing well for you!

Thanks! The Chuckles roses are in partial shade here in Colorado which I think most of the roses I've put in seem to need here because our sun is so strong.

Do you have any easily accessible pictures of the mature Chuckles rose?

I think HMF has one that Jeffcat posted of the actual hedge. I'll try to find it. I live a couple of hours south. However, I will look back in my archives (on various computers) when I eventually write that post. : )

This was 7 years ago, so it's grown a bit. It's also a morning shot as it's always been in shade when I've visited in the pm. You can see the evergreens peeking out behind it in this pic. They are larger now so nearer. He posts quite a few more. I'm also noticing HMF has it as shade tolerant. I should say! It's what I term a happy looking rose. :0

mmmm12, I'm so excited I get to visit HCRoses in a couple of weeks when I go to Co. Lucky you to have it so near. I'll still post my pics if I find them.

I spent a fair amount of time at High Country Roses walking up and down all the aisles. It is a lot to take in. I ended up taking pictures of things I liked and then going home to research the characteristics. I've probably been back 4 or 5 times since to get plants. I ended up putting in more than I initially intended. The guy in charge is extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

A third bud opened on my Chuckles candelabra. I am amazed. I really didn't expect any of them to open. With three open you can really smell the nice scent.

If you can take pictures at HCR. I'm curious as to what their stock is this late in the season. I went mostly in the spring and they had loads of plants.

Sweet rose! Great pics !!

I must admit that the Chuckles rose is failing me here in CO. This is what two of the plants look like this year. Just as small as last year. And while the blooms come out brightly colored they quickly fade to washed out and dry crispy edges. Not attractive flowers. I want to take them out but do not know what to replace them with. Really liked the hot pink color and the promise of a low spreading bush. But none of the 4 is really doing well. Should I wait another year to see if they establish? Suggestions for replacement?

I don't know what to tell you, mmm. I think Chuckles might appreciate some shade. I've seen her growing really well in actually quite dense shade. Your Sun is so intense it may take a while to establish, but is reputed to do very well with little water or care. I was just at High Country Roses again today I missed seeing you! That was so funny last year! The plants looked magnificent. I'm reading now on all my options, although I really only have one or two which I'm insure. Matt was a doll again and gave me the Royal tour. His assistant is also charmer and we act until the place closed!

So far I'm getting La France, Christian J, Victorian memory and Felix Leclair. I can get one or two more and that's the hard part. I saw in the catalog they now have Stormy Weather so I've been wanting that one but he had so many beautiful beautiful roses.

Sounds like you are trying some beautiful roses. Christian J in particular sounds interesting. How many types do you have?

Do you mean how many roses do I have or how many different categories of roses? I seem to be collecting a lot of climbers because I want to put up an Arbor someday soon.

As I mentioned above we have not been happy with Chuckles. It seems to fry in the sun. So last week I bought some Hardy Hibiscus to replace it. It seems to know it is about to get yanked so one of the 4 decided to bloom a bit just to make it difficult to pull it. Another has a big spray in bud. We are thinking of relocating it to a shady area under a tree. These blooms came out today for the most part. It is sunny but hazy so it will be interesting to see what they look like this evening. I think the smoke haze is cutting the sun enough that Chuckles looks good.

This is what I was hoping for when I got Chuckles. :-)

I'm impressed with the reported shade tolerance

My Chuckles from ARE is on a north-facing wall and currently blooming up a storm. As I've mentioned prior in other posts, I've seen this Rose growing at the Columbus Park of Roses in the shade of evergreens! I need to research its background to see why it's so shade tolerant. M12, perhaps it will make you happier in another spot with less Sun. It surely brightens up the bed I have it in so I'm hoping to take cuttings from it and plant another one in its mirror bed. Yours looks perfect in that picture! It also seems to be holding its own against black spot, but the jury is out on that until the end of the season. We've been getting nothing but rain so I should be able to tell soon. In any case, it seems to be a fast grower.

Thanks for this info. Ours are in a partially shaded south area. They are going to be relocated to an almost full shade west side of our house under a tree. Only one will get sun as they will all 4 be in a row and the one on the south edge of the row will get sun until the tree grows bigger. That one will probably continue to fry. But it will be an interesting experiment to see how the shaded ones flower vs that one.

Interesting that yours are fast growers. All 4 of our are not much bigger than last year, their first year in the yard. They are my slowest growing roses.

We a lot of rain. It was a very rainy spring and it put on a lot of growth wh I had it in its pot. I only got it in May.

Can you post a picture of your bush?

They wouldn't be much to show M12 as we had have record rain! 5 in yesterday! And then the deer broke into my yard again and ate all the Roses I just planted in front of Chuckles so that's not a pretty picture either! It's really a shame cuz she was covered with blooms. Hopefully so continue growing and I can catch some next time.

Our 4 in their new shady location. They look so pathetic for being 1.5 years old (almost 2 whole seasons).

I think mine is probably bigger because it came from ARE which ships 2-gallon roses. I get them when they have free shipping.
