bath vs kitchen

We were interviewing interior designers for our living room, and on the tour of the house both mentioned that our kitchen light is a bathroom light. It probably is, cause the bathroom lights are the same, but can someone tell me what the difference is??

OMG - this is kind of funny. That is a bathroom light. I've never seen a bathroom light in the kitchen. I think one difference is that this particular light is made to go over a vanity or mirror, because it is on a bar.

I am not sure, but maybe produced to give maximum light in the bathroom for an economical choice where as a kitchen light is more of a single fixture? Personally if you like it it is fine; I had a single light just like that in my kitchen when we lived elsewhere, and I thought it worked in the kitchen very functionally and beautifully too.

Just call her and ask her!

Yes, that is definitely a bathroom light. Is it over your sink?

it is right over the sink - makes lots of good task lighting - but I would like to replace it one day worth something more my taste (it was there when we bought the house). so I'd like to figure out what makes it obviously a bathroom light, lol!

it has multiple "globes" on a bar. meant to hang along the width of a mirror over the bathroom sink.

you can get a 'standard' sort of kitchen light at a big box store for under $50.

Most of the time, a kitchen light will be over the sink in the ceiling. If you decide to replace it, it won't be that expensive to run the wiring up into the ceiling and add a pendant or recessed light or two above the sink.

Guys, I'm sorry, but it's obviously a kitchen light—it's in the kitchen after all. If it was a bathroom light wouldn't it be in a bathroom? I do agree that it looks a bit off and would be easy to change.

Just because the previous owners put it in the kitchen does not make it a kitchen light. Even the experts(interior designers), told you that it's a bathroom light.

I don't know how to define the difference... I just know it when I see it. However, here's a fixture that I think could possibly work in multiple settings.
