Mine is flush with cabinets. You can only see the buttons when you open the door to set it. I can look under the countertop to see the green or blue light to see whether the cycle is finished.

I can only see mine when I open the door...That's the way it's suppose to be :)

You are right it should be flush! Looks totally incorrect sticking out like that! I avoided the top control style dishwasher when I replaced in my last house because I thought it would bother me, but in my new house the seller had put in stainless appliances to help sell and it is a top control style. I like it so much better!! I don't have visible finger prints on the buttons and better yet my kids can't mess with the controls!

I have a GE Profile dishwasher too. It was installed professionally and is flush with the cabinets. Glad you had your husband move it.

I think he feels the way most people do when buying a newer model. (You should be able to see the controls). However the DW should be flush w/ the cabinets.

Does yours have a space between the top of the dishwasher and the cabinet? I had mine installed today and I can see the top of the dishwasher and I hate it. I’m being told that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Euro dishwashers like the popular Bosch tend to hide the buttons. American dishwashers like kitchen aid stick out.

This is also why if you want to use a panel on your dishwasher to match your cabinetry, the euro looks more invisible. Euro dishwashers tend to sit flush with your other cabinet doors . The American dishwashers stick out noticeably.

To answer the original post, it depends on the brand. Some are supposed to stick out, others are not.

My LG dishwasher is also flush and you can only see the top controls when you open the dishwasher.

Depends on the model and the installation instructions. Bosch’s Panel Ready model is designed to be flush and in line with the cabinets. Their standard models are not.

Sandra…if you are asking how you turn the dishwasher on if the controls are “hidden,”… You open the door. Set your wash type, etc., then hit the Start button. Then you shut the door. You will hear the lock engage. And the dishwasher starts. Mine, a Bosch, has a little light that shines on the floor to indicate that it is on. When the cycle is complete, I hear a little dinging noise. It is all quite discreet.

IMO I like my bosch with controls on the front they work perfectly and no need for a light on the floor to tell me when it is done. I happen to like appliances that look like what they are so not an issue. But this one you have needs to be flush no matter what Dad thinks.
