Please help me ID, thanks!

I live in Shanghai and bought this yesterday at the plant market. It has glossy, heart shaped, checkered, single leaves on each stem. It's beautiful! I was told to keep it indoors out of direct sunlight but didnt get a name. I'm trying to decide where to put it in the apartment and that depends on whether or not it is at all toxic to cats...
