Light still on when "turned off"

I had my electrician install the fan in my bedroom and it is absolutely beautiful. The problem I'm having is that when we have the fan on at night and the light is "turned off" it still emits a good amount of light and in essence becomes a large night light hanging over our heads. Is this normal for the fan? Is there any remedy for this problem?
