It looks like my daughter's 'Red October'.

When I first saw the photo scrolling down I thought "ohh That's a lovely Red October."

But the leaves seem to be a bit brighter green (or is it the flash) and wider than Red October...

Maybe it is hosta Red Sox? (30-35 cm height, leaf is 18x11 cm, lavender flowers)

But I am guessing on the description of what medium is for size - we should have something familiar next to it for size /scale perspective of the leaf and entire plant, as Ken mentioned.

More guesses... because I find it fun to look around and learn, :-D

Leaves are smoothy "without veins", back is not white.The tip of the leaf is not prolonged. 10x16 cm (4x5 inches) My plant is 25 cm (10 inches) high and about 55 cm wide (22 inches) Has three scapes with lavender buds.And nice red legs!(not too dark)

When Angie mentioned Beet Salad I took a photo of mine. Might be a contender. I really need to get back in the groove...seedlings of dogwoods and Rose of Sharon all over ...

How about the hosta called Red Stepper?

Leaves are shiny and smooth green. Short red stems/petioles. Blooms light purple late August.

Not sure about the color of the flower stems/scapes.

The only difference that I do notice is that on mature specimens the leaves are unruly or floppy. However, the younger hostas looked like a match to yours...very close. So I am not certain but think it may be a closer possibility to the others I had mentioned earlier.

Angie, YESS!!! Seems to be Red Stepper. I like it after three years in my garden. For the first time I have seen its legs in the sun. WOW ! I do not need flowers any more...
