If you don't want it to look cheap then go for a glass railing.

I like this one, the color of wood is nice.

Go for the black scroll eg Big view Home....or the like. The wrought iron always looks stunning and depending on the pattern suits many styles and decors.

I would get an artist involved. Metal, Glass, or Wood, get someone good. Any materials can be sterile or stale just as easy as it can be alive and meaningful.

(like the glass in an escalator at the mall or airport is not classy/high end... : ) )

What other interesting elements, colors, materials are going to be in the house around it? Stairs are best when they are adding jazz, complimenting or presenting something more to whats around.

Thanks for recommendations. the tree patterned window is done this week. it will be situated on the left side.I'll post ıts photo too. We'll use metal and glass probably coz we could not find a good artist! :( and wooden stairways need a good artist..

We have done some pretty remote installations before - nothing on a Mediterranean Island yet. Maybe it could be a good work vacation ; )
