For the patio doors, unless you are aiming for a much more formal look, consider vertical blinds -- you could also get vertical blinds for the windows if, as it appears, they, too are the side/slide type and use them with or without a valance.

Verticals blinds come in wood, vinyl, plastic and fabric.

Your furnishings are dark you really need a medium-light color to lighten the room -- but not so light that contrast is stark. A gray or even a tan (without the pink or yellow hue), would look good with the muted burgundy/wine colored chairs.

You could paint all the wood around the fireplace the same color as the wall color but a better idea would be to add some natural wood, preferably finished in a medium to light shade.

Paint all the wall above the fireplace the same color as the rest of your wall except paint the two recessed areas in wall above the fireplace a bright white, then add mirror a mirror to the back wall of each niche. (Small battery powered LED lights could be affixed to the top/ceiling of each indent and turned on for special occasions such as during the holiday season when you may have frequent visitors.) Add picture frames with glass over each niche and display a couple of family treasures there.

If you're doing the work yourself, paint the entire wood fireplace mantel and wood strip just below it the same dark gray as the brick but then add boards with a natural wood finish over the face of the existing mantel. Cover the short (formerly red) board first, sawing it off after it is attached to the mantel to be the same angle as the longer board; then cover the longer mantel board, sawing it off to be the same angle as the shorter board after it is in place -- this puts the space between the two boards visible from the side rather than the front. To put a second board beneath the mantel, use the same angles on the ends as you ended up with for the top boards.
