Feels a little dark and heavy for a sunroom. I would lighten up the walls and maybe try slate flooring.

Hard to say without more photos. What precedes it? Kitchen? And what does that look like? It doesn't feel like a separate sun room in the photo, it feels like and extension of a dark room.....with a flooring change and a lot of window. No..don't love the flooring break at all.

Are those the kitchen counter stools sitting on it? You will get more suggestions with better pictures from farther back and more angles. It doesn't appear to be a separate sunroom that could manage a different flooring.

Thank you, both for your suggestions! The sunroom is an extension built off of the kitchen, so we use it as our eating area. We also have a bar area area and window seats. It really is a multipurpose room! Here are additional pictures. After I replace flooring, I will redecorate, so any help there is appreciated, as well!

I don't know how its outdated? Its just one color. Theres no design for it to be "outdated". I personally think its just plain, but some people like plain. Especially if you like modern. Kim made good suggestions but those floors would make the room dark. Your tiles is whats keeping this space bright. Try to find a light floor with a different pattern. Even if they were the same tiles, having them run diagonal would be much better.

Agree with Tony, it's just kind of boring, and I think the plain rug adds to that. Before I went to the expense of changing the floor, I would try to make the sunroom a little more 'sunny' with lighter paint and a more cheerful rug. You might even use a lighter grout stain on the brown grout, matching the tile, so the contrast is minimized and the pattern isn't obvious.

I don't mind the floor, it is the decor that's the problem. Paint and change the furniture. Change the orientation of the table. Lighten up the space with furniture, paint, rugs and pattern.

Whether the floor is more walnut or new tile, lighter-colored furniture would help. I agree a more interesting pattern to the floor is key.

OK now I get it. That is a separate room from kitchen, that is a bar not kitchen peninsula. I would leave the floor and paint the trim white, lighter walls, furniture more in tune with the "sunroom" idea. A great rug is a starting point and if large enough will hide a lot of the tile

I would extend the wood floor into the sunroom, paint all trim white, and add a rug with pattern and color. It appears that the table is the wrong direction on the rug. Maybe try turning the table in the other direction. You may have to pull the rug a little closer to the door, but it should fill the space better.

BTW, I would love to have a room like this, and would probably spend a lot of time in there. Could you give us a picture of the other area to the right of the bar? Is there room for a cozy conversation area? How do you feel about a round dining table?

The only thing dated about the floor is the dark grout -- you can paint that with grout paint and have an entirely fine-looking light floor. I agree that what you need here is lighter paint and some color, not a lot of dark flooring. I'd do the grout paint, a colorful (smaller) rug, paint the dark accent wall to match the rest, and probably paint all the wood trim (windows, doors, baseboards) white -- it's more dated than classic in this space -- and then reassess. You might be surprised at the transformation that you get from those things without getting into a jackhammer-level mess.

My sunroom is also an addition off the kitchen. There is a step down which gives the two rooms a little separation -wood floor in kitchen and tile floor in sunroom-I have attached some pictures. One or two taken on a sunny day and one taken today on cloudy day (today is very cloudy here in Northeast GA) so rooms look darker than they are. Also, one is night shot. They are normally very bright-paint and trim in sunroom is the same as the kitchen. Hope this helps.

I personally like it the way it is but if you are considering a change, definitely do not go the concrete route. Though it looks nice I don't think it would work well in your sunroom. I recommend maybe getting some textured porcelain tile. I think extending that hardwood / laminate could be a good idea as well.

Hi Plexers. I have one wicker table. The other "tables" are a bar cart and a side table that used to be in living room. I don't know the brand of the tile on floor just that it is a porcelain tile from Home Depot. The colors in it are grey and gold and beige. I will try to get a decent picture of it so you can see color. I will ask husband about name of it.

Thank you to everyone who gave suggestions about how I could update my sunroom/eating area addition. I took your suggestions to heart, and painted all the woodwork and walls. I also bought a colorful new rug! Now to update my kitchen table...maybe paint the black wood to match trim. Not sure. Suggestions welcome! Thank you!

Consider slate tiles in a light color which is in the adjacent walnut flooring. Try to avoid too much contrast as that contrast really accentuates the different materials. Normally, I would suggest continuing the wood into that room, but you mention that the walnut is fading in sunlight.

The room looks lovely. You could lighten it up a bit more with different bar stools, though if you're a little OCD about matching (and I am!) then that may not work. Different accent lighting may be another way to bring in more light. Again, it looks lovely.

This looks really great! Nice work! If you are still considering switching up the flooring, I agree that a slate tile would be beautiful in your new lighter space. I wouldn't extend the walnut due to your fading concern and having to install over concrete. You might end up with moisture issues or an awkward transition if the rest of your home is not on a concrete slab.
