That does not look like scale to me. It looks like scars from any number of problems. If you did have scale, wiping it down is good, but a systemic prevents them from returning.

Mine looks the same and I use Bayer 3 in 1 on them regularly. Hope it's not scale. And only the copper tone.

Stush, From your picture - looks exactly the same as mine. Now I am not sure what is it- have not had scale on my plants before- so do not know.

Don't have to buy the Bayer 3 in 1. Could use Bonide fruit and tree spray which is a lot safer and Bonide house plant control which has the same as the Bayer has. I'm sure there are many on the market just as good. Could try on line for best price. That's what I do. I think there is only one Bayer 3 in 1 so it should not be confusing.

I went to lowes to get this today. I am a little nervous about this kind of chemical, never used any pesticides before. I saw the bonide fruit and tree too but decided to get this because it has scale on its label. Do you think this will work? Also, the active agent it contains is not the same as bayer 3 in 1 nor the same as fruit and tree spray. Also, active agent of the bonide fruit and tree is not the same as bayer 3 in 1, probably I did check the right stuff?

Imidacloprid is the main ingredient in Bayer and Bonide and is used in flea control for dogs. If you want to go with caution, use less with more water and besides, it breaks down in about 3 months anyway. Don't use on outside plants that flower. This stuff will kill the bees on the flowers. The fruit and tree spray is safer to use around people, pets and helpful insects.

My DIY solution

I'm having great succes with a homemade sprayable product called "Zeepspiritus" (EN). It consists of a solution of 2% "Groene zeep" (EN) and 2% "Spiritus" (EN) in water. The Groene zeep causes the Spiritus to stick to the bugs, while the Spiritus (denatured alcohol) kills the bugs. Since bugs lay eggs it's advisable to repeat this treatment shortly after the already dropped eggs have hatched. Groene zeep and Spiritus are just household items overhere. Zeepspiritus costs pennies and works wonderfully.

Sprayable solution of Zeepspiritus (Insecticidal soap):

• 1L Water (1000g).
• 2% Groene zeep (20g).
• 2% Spiritus (20g).

just a precaution, don't spray the Bayer 3 in 1 where your pets may lick or drink the spray. Could be poisonous to them.

Rock Dale, the Bonidevworks great on scale. Take a plastic spoon, mix it into the top layer of dirt. Water and voilá, no more scale. As with any insecticide, I always where gloves, never use on a windy day and keep away from pets.

Since the Bayer and Bonide are sytemic which means it is thru the whole plants, leaves, flowers, roots and all. I heard dogs are not too bad with this but cats are. But like any and all insecticides caution should be used even the natural ones.
