Do you still have the receipts? Two or three larger pieces, including actual art, would be much more attractive.
Sorry, but you did ask for ideas.
You could start with one good-sized painting which has a little bit of your wall color in it. The topic could be anything you like: seascape, landscape, cityscape, mountainscape, pictures of wildlife, modern art, photographs, or whatever you would enjoy seeing every day. It could be in any medium...oil paint or watercolor, for example. It can be a print rather than an original. If you are willing to spend some time, you could visit local arts and crafts fairs, poster stores, art stores, art museums' gift shops, or places like Pier One or HomeGoods. You could even shop online.
Once you have an idea of what you like enough to purchase, you may look for another piece with a similar or coordinating subject for the same room. It doesn't need to happen all at once.
