Normal for here. Some are caused by sucking bugs. Others are damage from the hail that we receive. I see it every year and so far has not effect the bloom. I will admit that I have never seen where too much snow or rain in the winter would effect the amount of bloom since some of the places that they grow have feet of snow. Looking at the pictures I think when you are pruning you are removing the branches that would have bloomed. Some tp's bloom on terminal buds others send up new growth which contains the new blooms from the area where the stems meet each other.
