transplanting rhubarb query

When I lived back at the house we had a row of rhubarb and so when I sold the house to a developer even though I can no longer enter the house I could still go and harvest the rhubarb. Eventually they are going to wreck it to put townhouses there. This year I decided to dig up some of it and bring it back to the apartment where we have gardens growing out the back and transplanted it here. When I went to dig some up the one lot at one end was already going like gangbusters so I went to the end of the row and dug up the ones that were smaller with the root or bulb intact along with the leaves. I dug up about 4 and of those 4 - 3 have carried on getting bigger. The one plant's leaves are now 12 inches across!!! So I read that you can't cut it until the 2nd year due to it having to become established. Does this apply to ones that had about I inch leaves on it and they are now 12 inches across. Should I cut them or do I just leave them as is?
