you could use copper for counter tops, or even just metal. you could use a form of metal on a fireplace, or front of a bar and patina the metal. How about ribbed metal as a wall in a room? Metal hardware accents

Metal cabinets, countertops, backsplash, lighting & table tops, of course there are the metal barstools and dining chairs too, if the project requires a full room design I would recommend kitchen/dining, everything in the room could be done if needed for your assignment.

I would do a dining room in all metals if you could pick a room.

What an assignment! Sheeesh! So everyone will be thinking in terms of a panpoly of metals. Don't buy into that mindset....be different. Think in terms of contrasts, textures, dark vs light and color. Begin with how the room needs to feel in your mind's eye. Then focus on what you feel is the most important grounding element. That's where you begin. Then think about color and create your color triangle. Then think about finishes such as matte vs high gloss, mottled finish vs straight-ahead clean. Know what room it is and how it will function. If you can begin with purpose and the grounding element, I'm certain Houzzers will help you move this along. This could be a tragic project or something really fun. Create that third mind with you, the Houzzers and that "middle eye" that will come to the forefront when you begin to feel excited and edgy. So throw us a crumb. What fun! :)

Also to answer your question...Don't forget the chain mail window treatments, the metallic wall coverings, fabrics with embedded metal, trompe l'oeil paintings on ceiling and/or walls with metallic finishes and silver and gold-leaf finishes on furniture. So there are other materials you can place in the mix as long as they have some metalica to them. This will take you beyond the literal observation and solution to a much more expanded set of solutions. Don't do the obvious as everyone else will do that.

Metal fabric mesh would be cool for the window covering and would drape nicely as a metal fabric window covering.

You know what, I think I would create a "Zen" room which is the anthesis of what anyone would expect. Create a mood for meditation with light, reflective qualities and emotional quiet. So you could begin with several huge floor pillows in silver or gold embedded with some sort of quiet, deep colors like aubergine, pumpkin and a deep green.

You might check out www.olioboard.com for ideas. You can check out some contests they hold for various designs. Perhaps they have held one for metals and you can start creating. I'm not suggesting you copy other designs, just look and be inspired. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the input guys! Since I can only choose between an office or a kitchen, I have decided to work on a kitchen, so this should be interesting! So far I have samples of various metal laminates for walls and ceiling. Haven't found a product that is durable enough for walls yet, so if anyone knows please direct them my way! If they have a showroom in LA or could send out a sample that would be a ++.

I'm not so worried about the materials that I use, rather, what I should mention and write about in the research report. How metals laminates are made etc, its application, how it came about... That's just one metal product: metal laminate. I don't know what else is out there. Metal mesh is a great example that someone mentioned!

I guess what I'm trying to say is, what kind of products beside laminates, aluminum sheets, and mesh can metal be incorporated in? Planks? Idk????? Oh dear.

I'm also not actually working on an actual room. Just an inspiration board with renderings of the room as I would actually design it, and an extensive collection of samples!
