I would just use Milorganite. Better than Scott's 20 step $895 bargain (only $875 after rebate which they intentionally misplace). Scotts track record on the environment is horrendous. They are in my backyard and Ive been reading the Columbus Dispatch for 38 years. Scotts anything= toooootal ripoff. I only use milorganite and with great results on grass, plants, bushes, shrubs, and conifers.

Joe It's looking better than it did before vacation that's forsure, the nights are cooler and not so humid at all. my lawn thrives in Fall and cooler weather I Guess it has a lot of KBG in it I sodded it in October 2009 so it was one of the last fields left at the sod farm in Ohio or so they told me Lol so fescue and Rye and KBG but really thick, like it leaves foot marks when I walk in it, def greener from the milorganite I put down by Hand Lol I didnt have enough to do it by spreader so I just kinda spread it w my hands but I intend to do it normally this week after I cut it, How is yours?? I am going to wait to repatch to see what grows in etc. but doesn't look so stressed anymore but def has spots still...:/

    Lisa-

Yeah, I think we're hopefully out of the woods by now......I reseeded the dead patches and will take pics by 8/24 to see progress....

I am going to do a third round of fungicide this week at the urging of jc....

The rest of the lawn looks great though!

    :)

Well I mowed today for the first time in 2 weeks (wanted to give the new grass seed time to germinate).

The new grass is coming in slowly, but the lawn overall looks much better than a month ago.

I'll be on vacation next week and when I get back I plan on dethatching at the suggestion of owlswr with the greenworks electric dethatcher. I was looking at the thatch build up today and can't even imagine how much junk is going to be coming out. When I do it I'll avoid the newly seeded areas.

I think between the dethatching and preventative fungicide next May I'll no longer have fungus issues. (Hopefully).

If you use organic based fertilizers like Milorganite regularly, you shouldn't ever need to dethatch or deal with thatch-related problems.

Only started using Milorganite this summer. The thatch was certainly there before that.

    Joe and Lisa,

    what fungicide did you use?

    Joe,

and is it the same fungicide you'll use as a preventive measure next May?

let us know how the de-thatching goes?

how big is the area you are going to de-thatch?

    thanks

I Used the Bayer Liquid one first round second round the Granular ( which I Liked way better ) and I didn't use a third application it didn't need it, the spots are all greening up like everyone said on here I think it was dollar spot, I did an application of Milorganite a week ago and we had some Good Rain here so it really Greened up, and is pushing those spots out! I am going to mow tomorrow ;) I can't wait Lol

    Gle-

I applied 2 rounds of Bayer granular two weeks apart starting in mid July when the fungus was peaking, then a round of scotts granular a week ago.

That definitely got it under control.

Yes, I think I'll use the Bayer as prevention next May as recommended by jc.

I'll be dethatching about 9000 sq. Ft.

Which is the front, back, and sides.

    Joe,

Please let me know how you make out with the de-thatching and how long it takes you. My yard is about the same size.

    thanks
