Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really like this to be a piece I love but currently it's kind of an eyesore...

We have something similar. We replaced the cheap wood top with a piece of our kitchen Cambria top to match. It made a world of difference. I haven't painted the white but I have considered it. So I will listen in.

Hard to have a good idea without knowing what the room looks like that this is going into.

Kerri, it looks good to me based on your photo. However, it's very hard to know without seeing pics of your kitchen.

I would suggest making the sliding door hardware silver to complement the silver drawer pulls and then possibly adding some type of peel-and-stick treatment inside each of the 4 door inserts to complement not only the piece but also the style of the kitchen (whatever that may be).

Do you need it to roll? If not, replace the casters with some beautiful feet, painted to match. Then change out the hardware to something more exotic. Along with the marble or new stone top it would be very nice.

The kitchen is kind of a blank slate as I currently have cherry cabinets I'm going to either reface or refinish and I'm putting in marble looking quartz counters. I'll replace the top of this to match the counters.

I like the idea of the peel and stick inserts, that's easy to change.

I question the look (quality?)of the island for your kitchen...also the practicality for it?..how do you plan on using it ...and where will it be placed?...for instance how do you use an island that may move if you lean against it?...how handy is it to move whenever you need it and how heavy will it be if it has a stone top?...will the construction (wheels?) of it support the weight and does it add enough excitement to the kitchen to warrant all these challenges ...if you love the idea enough I might consider getting a wonderful ...sturdy..quality...old?...piece of furniture ...to re- purpose for this...

Keep in mind, if you are going to do a stone top, it will be much heavier than the wood top that is on there so you may need to change the wheels for the weight difference - they would need to be something that also won't mark up your floor. I would stain that wood top dark and add nice dishtowels or oven mitts hanging on the sides... should be great!
