I definitely always loved having a real entryway - if it were me, I would leave existing door, move the storm door out to the top of existing steps, extend the roof/walls out. so you enter the storm door, have a place to drop your groceries, umbrella, etc, and then you are going through one door at a time, and have a covered area to drop wet things, things in their way in/out...

How far out are you thinking?

Because the roof sits so low over that space, it may seem odd to simply extend it out, and raising just the porch will look strange too.

Love your cute cottage! New landscaping would make a dramatic difference. Pull out the overgrown away from the walls and begin with a plan. Also consider a lighter trim and shutters which will contrast with brick.
