Countertop overhang with Ikea cabinetry

last modified: 9 years ago

We have a peninsula where we were hoping to do an overhang for seating. Originally, I thought it would only be a 12" overhang, but NKBA said a 15" overhang is better for this seating height. The countertop template contractor said I would need support for 15" (not for 12"). I'm not sure the best way to do this in Ikea Sektion cabinetry since there is no solid or mdf wood backing. Also, my contractor has already installed the cover panels, so I'd like to not have to redo that. Also, I did read on the Caeserstone manual that 3cm quartz doesn't need supports for <16" overhang here on page 21. So, I'm not sure my fabricator is entirely correct. I'm not sure if I'm going to win that battle, though. I've already paid for the countertops (through IKEA), so not sure I want to shop around for a fabricator that will let me get away with no additional support.
