Avoid Blotchy Finishes

Make sure you prime and texture wall patches to avoid having a blotchy finish. Fresh paint can look blotchy on a wall because of an inconsistent sheen. Blotches often occur on holes and cracks that have not been patched with filler or drywall compound. This results in a dull surface because the paint has been absorbed by the porous fillers. The dull spots are quite noticeable especially when hit by light. In addition, the contrast between the dull and the smooth patch will be even more noticeable. Applying a coat of primer on the dull patches can quickly eliminate the paint inconsistency and texture differences. Primer helps to seal patches on a wall preventing the paint from sinking in and making the wall appear dull.
