What type of trees are these?

I'd love to know approx. how high these are and maybe how high before the canopy of the tree begins. I'd love to plant these along my fence.
Also, what type type of gravel surrounds them,? I really appreciate your help!

    Hi, stems are 2 - 2.2metre clear with the boule around 1 metre in diameter. The gravel is silver grey granite. species is hornbeam. John
