Could you tell us how you plan to grow this Phal? You appear in an office, will the orchid grow there?

If so, what are the temps and lighting?

The new pot doesn't look too big on my monitor. But, if you repot now you will probably lose the flowers. You could leave it in the small pot until the flowers fall off.

The plant needs air around its roots so you should cut slits or holes in the plastic pot. Only water when almost dry, just slightly dry. You can put it in the new pot inside while keeping it in the small pot, but you need to raise it up. Put some rocks or Styrofoam on the bottom to raise it to the rim of the pot.

When you do repot, you don't have to use bark alone. When I grew them in NY I used a mix of small bark and sphag moss. Winters are dry and you want to protect the roots from drying out. Sphag holds more moisture. But, again you must be careful about watering. Only when almost dry.

Good points Jane! Okay, yes, I'm in an office. Luckily (I think?) I have a small grow light that I have never used but it is clamped to my desk. It came with the desk so I don't know any of the details about it except it has blue and red light and it's LED. It has a timer setting and I played around with it today to see how it worked and I think I can leave it on over night for up to 12 hours to give supplemental light.

I will wait to repot. In the pictures, it's not in the larger orchid pot yet. But you can sort of see the larger plastic pot sitting on the desk to the right in the first picture. It is 3in and has slits all around the sides. I hadn't thought about the moss being helpful in dry winter air so I will save some of it and mix it in with the bark when I do repot.

So far I have been keeping a pothos and a fittonia on my desk but they seem to do well with just 12 hours of florescent lighting a day (my office has no windows). I know an orchid will never survive in that though so hopefully the grow light will help.
