I have no idea, but a good question. Mine are not as long, but very plump. I'll post pics and maybe someone can help us. Mine still feel hard though. I suspect they should have some give.

Oh wow! Look how round yours are, Laura! I have no idea if mine are red or yellow, and if certain varieties are longer than others! Also, mine just started flowering again, and I got a bunch of tiny rice sized ones just starting! But after the heavy bloom earlier, only three fruits to show for it!

So you think they should feel soft? I am scared to touch them at all, incase they fall off!!

Looks like two different varieties. Laura will yours get red when ripe? Kcandmilo maybe sacrifice one and see how it looks inside? I would have no clue either

Susanne, I did some googling and found that they say the limes almost fall into your hands when they are ripe. If they are firmly attached, they are not ready! So I went and tugged at all three of mine, and all are firmly attached and rock hard, so I'm going to wait for now! I'll keep you all updated on the progress!

Laura, did you get your finger lime tree from Logees? The short plump finger lime variety, such as yours is the variety that Logees sells.

I did Silica...it is the red variety from Logees. My little tree has lots of them about that size and a bit smaller also. Glad to know about the falling off when ripe. I had one fall off a few weeks ago and I cut it open. It did not seem anywhere near ready and was quite hard. I cannot wait to try those little suckers ;-)

Silica, mine is from 4 winds, and I can't tell which one it is! I think it might be Crimson Tide from what I can tell from pictures of different varieties!

My AFL from FW (on Volk) - produces a heavy crop. They are ready when they release from the limb... at that point they are blushing a bit, that is, lightened up color-wize. I usually just shake the tree a bit and pick up the windfall : - )

Laura I did.I want the crimson red but is not ready yet (thank goodness) He recommend ordering four because of shipping cost I assume.

So I checked and it is illegal to bring any plants into the USA. I'm a stickler with the law. It makes sense to me not to bring anyrhing in unchecked. It is sad but I can live with it.

Susanne, me too i know it sounds crazy but im afraid some us authority will hunt me down and destroy everything. I want a red one so bad. His look beautiful and so many different ones. I thinks logees has red but ive read somewhere they are small. It may be worth a try. Ive been trying to find one but i just havent commited yet. I already have so much to bring in during winter. Do you already have green?

I got a red finger lime from Logee's last summer. It was small but just this summer produced a few fruit about 1 inch long.

A red finger lime from Logees is a different cultivar then what you think a finger lime should look like. Vladimir, the fruit on your tree will not grow as a standard finger lime, but rather will stay about an inch in length and then fatten up a bit.. Will look much like a Australian red lime, instead of a finger lime.

So it did well? I got a green finger lime from mail order from a citrus nursery im sc but it is also small im worried it will take a couple years to produce

Grrrrr! Logee's called it a finger lime! I am not having a good time with vendors lately.

So Silica, your description is exactly what I see with mine, which makes sense since it came from Logees. How is the inside different though? Is the flavor different?

My understanding is that the finger lime has those tiny pearl that hold the juice while the red lime is more like a mexican lime in structure??

Laura, really not sure, as I have never eaten what Logees calls Finger Lime . I would guess it is a fruit that has pearls like a regular Finger Lime. I'll leave it to you to tell us when you harvest your fruit. Might be good - just don't know.

Laura, that explains our dramatically different looking fruit! We need to each post pictures when we finally get around to harvesting them! (I had no idea citrus gestation takes as long as a human baby!)
