Hi all

We are in the process of buying a fixer upper. It has an old (1970s vintage?) 20x40 pool. It's pretty beat up so we are wondering if it's worth renovating or should we demolish, remove it and make it the way we want it to be. I assume it's cheaper to fix the coping, tile, pumps, plaster etc as opposed to replacing but I am not at all certain about that

There is plenty of other work to do on this house so we really don't want to sink everything into the pool. OTOH it's a pretty important feature of the house and the angle is bothersome to us. It's hard to tell from the picture but the structure at the top of the picture is a covered patio. It too is angled-- the rooms of the house are more squared off than they may appear and wrap around the pool area. We are thinking about removing the overhang for other reasons.

Would appreciate thoughts and advice on potential cost differences for renovation vs replacement/relocation and any watchouts/concerns. We are getting the pool inspected and will do some diligence with a pool contractor also but I've had a lot of success with GW advice in the past and thought it would be worth getting some opinions here as well
