Just Finished "Pecking Order"

I just finished this quilt that I found on Jenny Doan's site. Mine is done with light-weight fashion denim background. I really fell in love with this design and it was a simple one to piece. But I took awhile to quilt it, I found a free-motion paisley design on Leah Day's site but I wish I had started out looser and bigger, I have a problem with that, I wind up doing a tight, dense pattern and it takes me so long to finish. I used the walking foot on the red borders and used the Serpentine stitch on it, criss-crossing it from side to side.

I also used flannel instead of batting in the middle, I thought it would be lighter-weight - NOT! Oh, well. But it gave the tight quilting an interesting texture effect, I kind of like it. It's also a little stiffer than one with batting in it.

I like it! Using a dark background makes the colours pop. Glad you finished it.

Oh, Rita, I really, really like your quilt.The batiks (I think) really stand out against the dark denim background. And the red border is perfect. Very nice job!!

Lois, actually there is only one of those triangle fabrics that is a batik. I guess the fabrics I chose just "pop" against the dark background like batiks, as you said. I gave it to DH for his easy chair. Today is our 47th anniversary and since I damaged my little toe really bad early this a week I haven't been out to get him anything. Can't even put a shoe on it's so painful so we will eating cold tuna sandwiches and soup for our "big" dinner celebration. Sniff, sniff. We'll make it up hopefully by this weekend. Just to let you all know, you can't walk through a wing-chair. LOL!

Thanks for the heads up about the chair. Very nice! I love the way the colors pop. I would have thought a flannel layer would have been lighter as well. Happy anniversary. You can snuggle together under the quilt.

It is such a statement quilt. I love the dark background and the tight quilting and the bright scraps. They go together so well.

Ouch on the stubbed toe - hope you feel better in a couple of days.

Nice job, it came out great!! Good luck w/ your toe.

I've seen Jenny Doan's tutorial (MSQ) on this & remember thinking, 'there's a pattern I gotta try'!! Your beautiful quilt here confirms I'll leave this on my wish list to do.

I noticed the eclipse effect, too. I heard that many people are getting married during the eclipse and many people are planning on conceiving a baby. Might be a market for you Etsy ladies.
