The "translucent pearl" might be a snail egg. Worm cocoons are a teensy bit lemon shaped, and what you have there seems to be (though I could be wrong), larger than what a cocoon would be and also more perfectly round. Just so you are aware.

Emily-- Great looking castings reat job on your part. I think cocoons are just variable. I dont worry much about bugs, unless I happen to get a lof of spider mites which I havent seen for a while. In the beginning we do worry but as time goes on we realize its just part of the environment they are a part of.

Thanks! My spider mites are pretty insane right now. Think I may have overfed a little bit, and watermelon is my primary food source at the moment and I know the mites love the moisture. I am not overly stressed though. I am beginning to see how the little ecosystem works and it balances out after awhile.

Quick question though, I was checking my WF360 today and noticed tiny (like very tiny) white worms/larvae or maggot-looking things.... could these be pot worms? I only saw maybe 3 or 4 on each of my 2 avocado shells.

Yes, pot worms. I have millions of them, especially after feeding starchy food.

To the size of the bins, it not so overwhelming. At this point I do not worry (yet). If I see a clump, I take it out and put it on edge a shallow plastic container or anything and after about 15 min. when I lifted the top part of that little pile, the bottom consisted of just pot worms, to be discarded. Or fed to the fish if you have an aquarium.
