Boston ferns - Nephrolepis species - are tricky to grow well indoors long term. They like a cool location, high humidity, indirect light and cannot be allowed to dry out. It's hard to cover all those bases successfully indoors, especially the coolness and high humidity :-)They also need very little, if any, fertilization.

If at all possible, you could start to revive the fern if it could be given some time outdoors under shade. You often see these hanging from porches in summer - that's generally their happiest time :-)

These are often planted in a heavily peated potting mix. If allowed to dry excessively, it is difficult to rewet and the plant could benefit by sinking the entire pot in a deep bucket of water for an hour or two.

Thank you! I do think this plant is pretty cold. I live in Alaska, so the weather is already dropping down to 40s at night and 50s during the day. It may have to be next summer before I put it outside but for now I can take it away from the sun.

Is there anything I can do about the "sticks" close to the base? Do you think repotting it would be okay?
