Unfortunately my knees hurt now when sitting down or getting up too. I decided to call it quits a few days early. No reason to mess things up now.

Moni, I am glad you have the good sense to listen to your body. I'd hate for you to push on and ride a few more days and mess up your knees. Have a safe trip home and take care of your knees and rest them. I have a friend who's had both knees and both hips replaced (not all at once, of course), and there is a lot of pain and therapy involved and a very long recovery. I know you don't want to put yourself in that position....although, I guess it could be good to have bionic knees and hips....if only the artificial ones would work as well in real life as they do on television shows.

You've traveled an incredible number of miles. I cannot even imagine going on a trip that long in a motorized vehicle...and you've done it on a bike. You're just amazing. Congrats on perserving through all the obstacles and I hope the trip has been as much fun as it looks on your blog. I didn't know you could hop on an Amtrak train with a bike? Or did you have to ship it home? I hope the train ride home is pleasant and I bet it will be great to be back home again and to sleep in your own bed. Hopefully OKC will manage to not be flooding when you arrive back home.

Dawn not all trains accept bikes, and some only if they are boxed. I got lucky to get on this one.

Double luck, John offered to pick me up at the station. Even though it would have been to cool to complete the circle, and to ride home from the station, I took him up on it. No way knowing what the weather will toss in to the mix, I know it's my best choice.

This has been the most amazing trip! The people, the scenery, and the fact that I got as far as I did.

I'm glad you got lucky with the train. That is awesome. I was trying to picture a bike on a passenger train and couldn't imagine it.

I'm glad John is picking you up at the station. The way the weather has been this last week, it could be pouring rain or flooding when you arrive home.

I hope you'll tell us more about your amazing trip after you're home and rested.

For those of you who haven't read Moni's blog about her long bicycle tour around the Great Lakes area, it is incredible and I encourage you to go read at least a few random entries to get an idea of how she spent her summer....not gardening. Forget nerves of steel, Moni has muscles made of steel, and the mental toughness to match.
