They will grow and bloom, but not as brilliantly as they do in the northern climates. Because of the sun's intensity in the south, they must be planted in areas that receive more shade. The less sun they receive, the less they bloom. I planted three along the front of my northern facing house. Two receive shade all day. One receives some afternoon sun from 3-5pm. The one that receives the sun is doing the best. It would be ideal if they could receive a few hours of morning sun and afternoon shade, but finding locations like that aren't always the most practical.
