The TV's much too high. Put up roman shades rather than drapes. The room needs a generous rug and places to set things down. Lamps are needed for lettering lighting.

can't do anything about lowering TV....we will be changing these 2 lamps, we just added recessed lights. I'll just have to look at some Roman shades, hadn't ever considered that, thanks so much

I would agree to that!

Generous stationary panels hung according to this illustration will leave the view open yet add softness, and maybe color and/or pattern. Use them at the bay too for a cohesive look, or add a matching faux roman at the bay. When they are properly hung, you won't need anything between the windows. Seating must have access to tables. Coffee table 18" or less from a seat to be useful. You might reverse the location of the 3-seater and the loveseat. Then put the chair by the railing on the lower left of your second photo.

If Roman shades look too heavy to you, consider light- filtering rollup shades. You can see through them, they allow light in, but if your sliders get direct sunlight you may need to block some of that direct light to protect your furniture and rug from fading. You do need a rug to define your living room zone even in an open-plan home. It gives you texture and color. Make it big enough to have at least the front half of your seating pieces on the rug. Too bad you can't move the tv to face height...or do you like to watch it while standing up?

It looks like your neighbors can look right in. I'd put something up. A nice piece of abstract art would look nice where the cathedral mirror currently resides.

Since it's what looks like sliders, I would suggest decoenthusiate's recommendation to hang drapes. Otherwise you are going to have issues with the Roman shades when you want to go in and out. At least with the drapes you can slide them to the side. I would get pleated drapes...they just look much more sophisticated. Pottery Barn has some nice, real linen drapes that would look good there.

thank you everyone, lots of ideas to consider. Love abstract art! No we don't watch TV standing up , but moving the TV down 3 inches will make no difference and we are fine with our TV placement. I'll take a look at those drapes....thanks for the visuals!

These curtain panels can be a clean, simple alternative to regular curtains.

You can buy these panels at Ikea. Great idea for a clean uncluttered look.

Also check Ikea for inside mount pleated 'up-down' blinds for the bay window. Coordinates with the panels.

Drapes on the two sliders. Ripplefold is a bit more contemporary look.

I vote for curtains and wall art instead cathedral mirror, and area rug.
