Kitchen cabinet trade-off

Planning a kitchen remodel in home I have lived in over 30 years. For cabinets I wanted vertical, walnut, slab, frameless cabinets. But as the price of the “bones” of the project have increased (can lights, soffit removal, wall opened up, etc.), they are no longer in the budget. I am going to have to use a more budget friendly option. What is being planned now is framed cabinets, either maple or oak.

One question I have is should I take into consideration the frame being visible at times (such as the framing the fridge)? I am trying to stay with the flat level surface look. I wonder if the filler pieces and trim pieces in framed cabinets being recessed are going to prevent me from having that look.

Also I am trying to decide which door will stay closer to my original desire for walnut: natural maple or stained oak, both as flat slab doors.
