Yes it is a common practice and often discussed here. Some home canners prefer to do just that and wait until fall cooler weather to do their canning. Just plan to drain them a little as they thaw to remove some of the excess water.

There is no need to even quarter them, just remove the cores and freeze whole if you wish.
