Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I do intend on keeping the sofa. Love all the ideas, definitely some form of artwork is needed, since I have none whatsoever. I'm also really liking the idea of the tripod lamp. I will upload some better pictures to give you a better idea of the space I'm working with as I have very high ceilings.

As much as I like the idea of a cowhide on a jute or sisal rug... wouldn't do it here. You'll have a herd of cows since the Corbusier chair already is covered in cow. So, unless you want to go 'Western cowboy style' in stead of 'cool art style', I wouldn't add another cow.

A big oriental rug could work in this room, for a little eclectism, or a solid coloured one (even a piece of carpet that has been made into a rug). I feel that it needs to be large enough to have the entire sectional on it and either the entire chair or part of the chair needs to be on the rug too. So perhaps you'll need another size than a standard. You'll have to measure carefully. If you have painters tape, you can tape the shape on the floor and see what works best for you.
A modern colourful one could work nicely in your room too. It will be a large piece of art. Oh, just thought of FLOR!

That could be thé solution! Have a look at their website. You can create your own rug with FLOR tiles and be really original, colourful, or just do one colour but in different structures. And you can have your rug as long or as wide as you like.

Love your home. You are off to a great start. Just need to warm it up a bit. Area rug a good start. Go very contemporary graphic design. In the gray, black. Maybe a touch of color. Pick a accent color and pop it around room. With art work, pillows. I would put panels on windows, a print in black and white. Painting with a soft gray. Would bring it together. Adding big palms in bare corners fill in space. Remember to use big ceramic pots in color for plants. A zebra throw on sectional adds fun. Big art pieces on wall for sure.

Looking at paint. It's not doing any thing for room. Get samples and put on wall. Grays are big now.

On rug a 6x9 placed 5" from in front of sofa 9ft going towards TV. Should have a 7" border at TV. You may have to push sectional back a few inches to achieve it.

I love your space! I agree with the previous posts re a large area rug. What about a southwestern style or Moroccan style rug? Since you have a lot of square edges in the space, I would get a round or kidney shaped glass coffee table to give the space some more flow.

I like accent wall. Make that your accent color. But not crazy for latte color I would still do the gray, I like Mink it's Lowes brand.

Trouble with floor lamp, how do you run cord without showing? If You have a recessed light right above where a coffee table would go. Could hang a very unusual chandelier. Ck Internet for ideas. Just adds interest to room.

I thought about how the lamp would look without the cord showing, not sure how that would work. I'm also liking the idea about the rugs from FLOR. I'm attaching two picture one to show you how high the ceiling are and another one of an empty wall space that needs a picture and maybe a console ? The problem I have had with finding a rug is the finish of my floors not sure if you can see it in the picture but it's cherry wood and I'm not entirely in love with it.

I'm also thinking about your advice on maybe changing the colors. The painters told me it would turn out more subtle than it actually is. It grew on me but it's not like I walk into the room and feel a connection.

I think you may be right in changing the paint. It's a lot of work. You could maybe take that same color farther up in lightness. I think you will come to like the floors better. Or at least change the wall color behind the TV. The TV niche wall is without much warmth. I would like to see a warm color to pick up the warmth in the cherry floors. Warm rich tan maybe. Not boring beige. I think the walls are too terra cotta and too deep in value. I'd like something softer.

I think a warm grey or a grey beige would be lovely on your walls. A colour that goes with your tiles. And then bring colour into your room with a funky FLOR rug. I think your floor will look different when you have a lighter colour on your walls. I actually like your cherry wood floor.

Your furniture is very contemporary. If you want to complete that look, sleek, streamline and simple, you may want to take another look at the rooms I posted above, as many walls are very light, even off whites. You can add any of these colors ex: rust orange, terra cotta, teal, coral, lime and blue in smaller accents in accessories, artwork and pillows.

If you want more drama, the darker and bolder wall colors would be good choices. This would add spice and warmth to the room in a big way.

Beautiful room! I love the space you have. Floors look great and your furniture too. I would go shag area rug. There are a lot of new synthetics on the market that wear better and cost less than wool. CB2 has a "Drake" shag rug, in a natural/off-white shade and also in a grey. You should seriously consider repainting. The wall color is wrong. I would do an eggshell white. Introduce bold colors on throw pillows. Add more powerful color with art. Find a big color photograph you love or a great painting. Keep us updated! I want to see what you do with this!

If white walls are too much for you, then I have to agree with all the interest in grey. I like the idea of glass coffee table. You could probably get away with the standard Noguchi coffee table, it would blend nicely with the earth tones and woods you already have. I see sight lines into a dining area, kitchen and hallway? You should be choosing a color palette that flows from room to room. Because you are going Modern, I would suggest bright colors in solids. There are great neons out now, in all kinds of accessories. Exciting choices!

White walls aren't too much it was actually an option I thought of. You made a great point in making sure the rooms flow as well which currently I'm hack g a difficult time doing. I also like your choice of suggested Noguchi table, I believe it will be a great fit.

I'm so proud of you for deciding to repaint. You have such a gorgeous home, it's worth the extra effort. I've been working with the Benjamin Moore Natura Line. It's no smell and easy application---though it may need more than two coats and/or primer to cover a dark shade.

Is the back wall painted an ivory? If so, the white would be a good compliment.

Wow my first thought was noguchi coffee table! Yes, you need art, lamps, and please please do some color on the rug and pillows. I like that this is modern and a bit masculine - but someone even suggested an oriental rug and I love that idea. You might want to look at a dhurrie rug or a kilim rug. But I just want to leave you with the idea that you need some bright colors - red - bright blue - bright green - yellow even. Without color this will look like some beautifully selected pieces of furniture - not a completed room.

kbapti, I LOVE your accent wall color. It is rich and striking and your upholstery is showing to great effect in this surrounding. I am a subscriber to "if it ain't broke, don;t fix it". This wall color is definitely NOT broke. I do like the idea of a WARM grey for the other walls. Even a green-grey, the color of wet cement. If I remember correctly, overstock.com had a Noguchi knock-off table listed last week. They also have an array of other iconic mid-century pieces: the Eileen Gray table, Eames chairs, Saarinen style lamp tables, etc. Cool space and you already have really interesting furnishings. You can hardly go wrong, you are so on track... Good Luck and please post pics as it evolves.

Sometimes, you can also connect areas with different paint colors by adding wall art with blocks of needed color at the color junction of your space, for example, on the beige kitchen wall. You could use these two pieces to transition from beige to darker cinnamon color. And any of the images I suggested before can also work well for this purpose.

If you decide to change paint colors, my approach would be to first decide which colors you enjoy looking at in art that you are going to have in your space. Once you have established your favorite color(s) and all your furnishings are in place, including furniture (which you already have, of course :), art, rug, etc, it will be a lot easier to decide on paint colors. A choice of paint colors is huge, so you can always find paint colors/shades to go well with your furnishings. Hope it makes sense... Raisa
