Slug B Gone is labeled as being harmless to animals, and approved for organic gardening when used as directed. Unless those chipmunks ate the whole box for lunch, I'd bet that something else killed them. Sick animals worry me, and I hope you reported that you found them in case there is disease.

Yes, it's the Eco Sense brand. I wondered as it says on the bag that it won't harm pets birds or wildlife. I just can't figure out why we've had two deaths in less than a week. I think they come to our yard to die as we don't have any pets (and we used to feed them); whereas all our neighbors have dogs. One neighbor in particular actually got upset at me for feeding them, so I'm suspicious now that maybe he put out some poison. I know they can do property damage, but I still love them. They are so trusting and easily tamed. They are our outdoor pets, so it's very upsetting.

Patti you might want to go to the Hosta Library page then click on "Reading Room" then scroll down to "Pests and Disease and then read the article by Bill Myer on "Iron Phosphate Slug Baits - How safe in the Garden?" I personally wouldn't use it.

Considering the lethal dose to kill a chipmunk, I wouldn't think this is what killed it. However I would cease applications. Otherwise this will drive you crazy.

Thanks for the article link Gary. They must have moved it because I could only find it with a google search, but did end up finding it. Sounds like poisoning can happen to anything with this stuff, as the main ingredient (iron) builds up in the system creating iron toxicity. Including earthworms!!

Afterward I found a link to Health Canada Consumer Product Safety where numerous dog poisoning incident reports were posted from Slug b Gone. Not of these dogs died but were pretty sick for a day or so. Shocking! If this stuff made dogs really sick, I'm sure it would make a chipmunk pretty sick too.

I think I will discontinue using this stuff, and go back to my ammonia spray for the slugs.
