Fertilization Frequency?

last modified: 9 years ago

I like to fertilize primarily in the fall months, KBG lawn. The standard prescription is 3 to 5 pounds N per 1000 sq. ft. annually. Typically the advice is to apply no more than every 30 days. Can I fudge this in cooler temps? I applied today after mowing. I don't irrigate so the lawn looks fairly rough after this dry summer we had. Last fall it was looking pretty good. KBG "bounces back" nice though, when cooler temperatures and precipitation returns.

Can I increase the frequency of application? Every 2 weeks?Right now I have a large bag of slow release 32-0-4. Can I time applications a little closer than every month if favorable rains cooperate? I'd like to maximize the N with slow release type until the very last application of a fast release type sometime in November, before the ground freezes. 3lbs N per 1k is baked in the cake this fall, wondering if I can increase this without burning.
