Can this tile be cut as easily as ceramic?

Can this tile be cut as easily as ceramic? If cut, is it likely to chip or crack? Will it effect the glaze? What is the consequence of lower water resistance?

    Hi Chris,

thank you for your question. Yes, this tile cuts easily with a standard tile wet-saw and cutting shouldn't affect the glaze or cause cracking. This tile is not appropriate for spas or pools where it is submerged, but can be used in showers with appropriate sealing.

Please call us at Mexican Tile Designs if you have more questions or would like to discuss your project.

    All the best,

    Jenny

    Jenny,

Web site says: "Each tile typically measures 4.12" x 4.12", .025 inch thick" What are actual dimensions?

Does the glaze curve over the edge? No good photos on site.

Does the whole tile need sealing in a shower or just the edges?

    Do you send samples?

    Thanks

    Chris

    hi Chris,

The measurements listed are "typical". Because Mexican tile is hand-made, it may vary in size, shape, color and design--especially these traditional Talavera tiles. These are our most rustic tiles and have sharp edges, not painted on the sides, may have crackling, etc. All of these features give this tile it's unique look and charm. In a shower, the tiles once installed and the grout should be sealed.

We have other lines of tile offered on HOUZZ and our website that are ceramic. These are more consistent, with paint curving a bit over the edges, rounded edges, no crackling etc.

We sell samples from our website, Mexican Tile Designs, but not on HOUZZ.. Please don't hesitate to call if we can be of any help.

    All the best,

    Jenny
