Using gray color scheme with gold accents and decor!

How do you mix gold accents and decor with a gray color scheme? I prefer gold over silver for picture frames, mirrors, etc. I don't have pictures yet. Trying to decide a new color scheme for a house I inherited. Thanks

gold and gray, especially darker tones, look great together. don't be afraid to mix in black and white and silver, too.

    i love this color palette

I will be using various gray tones throughout the house. I prefer cherry wood furniture. Prefer brown over black.
Hardest decision will be gray walls with cherry bedroom furniture and gray bathroom. These will be master suites in a smaller scale.
Love the colors of this bath but they won't match a gray bedroom.

I suppose that you could mix cherry in too - could this pillow [or other fabric or art] offer a palette?

cherry is a hard tone to work w/gray. it has to be the right gray. perhaps a gray w/purple/blue or green undertones might work.

This neutral-ish in gold frame [little gold here and there] - I could see with fabrics including burnt orange [and calling it burnt cherry stained furniture, etc...]

For the record, your bathroom doesn't have to "match" your bedroom. Just not be a total disconnect in style or feel.

If you love those colors how did you come to choose gray for an entire house?

Using gray because the formal living room has a white marble fireplace with gray streaking in it. The living room is huge and needs to be a darker color. Please see picture.

Oops; now you've exposed a landscaping issue, but we can deal with that in another dilemma!

Yes, the exterior looks like a cottage style house but the inside decor is formal with chandeliers and pecan furniture with marble inlays in the coffee table. I want the interior a little less formal. I want to keep the chandeliers and marble fireplace. Got any ideas?

I wouldn't necessarily let the FP marble dictate anything about the color of paint. Marble like yours is just a "neutral" and you can do anything you want with paint colors. Since the house is cottage style, consider just painting the FP wall with your gray, and the rest white.

Agree. The marble is completely a neutral. It doesn't dictate only gray walls...

The room is so big that it needs a darker color. That's why I was thinking about gray. Also, on each side of the fireplace are huge arched bookcases with a wood carving at the top. The bookcases are built into the wall. When you enter the house, there is a large foyer, to the right is a large arched opening into the living room. On the right, is a large arched opening into the formal dining room. All these rooms need to match because there is no door separating the foyer from the living and dining room. There is a crystal chandelier in the foyer and formal dining room. All of these items give the house character and I would like to keep them intact. I think gray would look better than khaki. Gray walls would make the white fireplace and white bookcases pop. What do you think?

Khaki would relate in the interior to the exterior better. I had gray throughout a white cottage in the 90's and have a dark charcoal bedroom now. I'm planning to paint LR and kitchen cabs light gray. Your house doesn't look as though it would be "huge" inside, but without pix we have to take your word for it. Don't go too dark; your windows don't appear as though they'd let in enough light to cope with a very dark gray.

The living room is at least 1/4 of the house. It's the largest room. The house was built in 1930 and the couple who built it loved to entertain. That is why the living and dining room are so big. There is plenty of lighting. There are 2 large windows in the front of the living room. The fireplace is in the back of the room. There is a butlers pantry with a built in China cabinet between the hallway and kitchen. The backyard has a very large red brick patio with red brick steps and small wall that lead up to a large grassy area. A large pool could easily fit on the upper level of the backyard. It was built for both inside and outside entertaining. I will try to get more interior pictures. Thanks

Sounds faubulous! May we see it? You might be surprised at the suggestions that will come which you never thought of and will wonder why you didn't think of that!
