Working all the right angles?

Here's a fun challenge! The focal wall of my basement has three different depths. A built in corner cabinet stands 2' wide and sticks out 2'6" from the wall. To the right, the 9' wall is recessed 2'6" from the corner cabinet and houses the television about 4.5' from the floor. That wall's edge falls to the furthest back wall by 4' for another 9.5'. Hopefully, my pics best describe my design dilemma. I'd like to keep the corner cabinet and add some shelves to surround the television for a built-in look. Suggestions? Or other ideas please?

Ideally, I'd find a new home for the shelves that house the kids' games, as they don't use them much...

How about moving the bookshelves below the TV and placing components in them (plus the board games). It would "ground" the TV and hide the wires. Then you could make that niche a computer space with a desk or a reading nook with a comfy chair amd lamp or....?

A larger tv console like French suggested is a must for not only decor reasons but to declutter all you have on the present small table. Have the tv wires hidden in the wall. From my experience the tv is too high. I ended up having to go to rehab for my head and neck after visiting a relative with their tv that high.

Frenchtarragon, I appreciate your comments. The door leads to the stairway and an exercise room. I like the idea of painting the cabinet the wall color and adding shelves under the television. I was definitely going to remove the little toddler table; a temporary fix that has lasted way too long. Thanks again!

Clairebuoyant1, I will slide those bookshelves under it and see how they look. I'd probably need to declutter them, because all of the toys may be a messy distraction. Nevertheless, I do like the idea of making that area another sitting area...perhaps a couple comfy chairs with a table in between them. (There are canned lights that aren't captured in the photo that shine right above those shelves.) Thank you so much, Clairebuoyant1!

Pandtkendall, so sorry to hear about your neck and rehab. I appreciate the tip. And I definitely agree, that we need to rid of the mess under the television. Thank you!

I agree with frenchtarragon and I would use this to hide the cords

Making the cabinet blend in with the room is a great idea and I agree a console beneath the TV would work. It should be wider than the TV. You could consider the electric fireplace/TV cabinet combos if you like them. For the best viewing the center of a TV should be at eye level to the viewer when seated. (Houzz even has an article about this.) A small game table and chairs could go in the far corner. The ottoman could go in front of the oversized chair and a couple of leather storage ottomans could go in front of the couch for games or other toys. If there's enough room, more storage could go behind the couch or on the wall by the pool table.
