new find

I picked this up on monday. It's wonderfully gaudy, like something I'd see in an old west brothel movie set. I learned it came from an estate sale in Nevada which reinforced that first impression.

It works, I should probably have it rewired, but I don't want to transport it to the shop. I haven't turned it over to look for marks. I've been looking for a unique old table lamp for years and this certainly fits the bill.

have you ever wired a lamp? it isn't that hard to do. needs some finger co-ordination. I can't do it anymore. there are good guides online to do it.

I love it! will you use candelabra bulbs or something with shades? is there space for shades on it? 3 lights or just the 2?

There's a lighting shop I take all my old lamps to, they'll do it for about $10. I'm just scared to pack it up again. If I could take the droopy leaves out, I'd feel better about transporting. But they seem to be set into the lamp with plaster or putty. Really, it just seems to need a new plug and I can do that without disturbing anything.

I left the bulbs at the antique shop, as I am transitioning to LED, so I will pick up some bulbs and a new plug today or tomorrow.

There are three lights. I don't think it takes shades, the light should glimmer off that glass bulb at the top I think. I think I'll get some low light flickering LEDs. I don't need it for light.

My house doesn't have great ceiling lighting and I like a bright room, so I began collecting old lights. At this point, in my 11 by 28 foot living/dining room I have 5 old brass floor lamps, a chandelier, a small new ceiling fixture in one corner and now this. I have a spot for one more pendant or small chandelier to hang over the dining table. Then I'm going to have to find something else to collect. I almost never have more than two on at a time, but I have light where I need it.

It's on a small table in my 'parlor', which is about five steps from my dining 'room'. I'll be decluttering and cleaning the room this weekend, then I'll take some pictures and post them. With a better camera.

I looked underneath it friday and decided the wiring under there was a bit dodgy...cracked covering on one wire, so I took it in to be rewired.

I have several old floor lamps from my MILs house. she died back in about '78 at 70 something... I can't find a shop around here that does rewiring and my right hand shakes if I try to do something like that, so they're just standing in a corner for now. 1 was rewired back in the 80s and my dd used it in her room, now it's in my bedroom. It isn't that hard to do, but a shaky hand would make it a disaster. I love my old lamps... I should do a computer search to see if there's any shops around here now.
