I wish I had time to tell each and every one of you how I admire you for searching out things you love, rehabilitating them in whatever way they require and finding the perfect locations for those items. I am envious of your Goodwill and Craigslist offerings. The items at those sources in this area would strike all of you as pitiful, indeed! My husband has been very ill for quite a number of years and I cannot get out like in the past.

All of the above is meant to tell you that this thread is fascinating to me

My less than $600 couch. Ashley, online, never sat on it before hand. Quite comfortable, my daughter slept on it for a week when she visited. Cheapie cushions, Josh and Main, Ikea throw (not my favorite but the pup doesn't like it much either so it doesn't get torn up lol). And yes, I was the one who said I wouldn't mention my cheap couch.

overstock table, put it together myself! It was likely $500ish I think. Ashley chairs less than $75 each, cheapie joss and main cushions, artwork from Ashley, bowl from pier one (bought in Southern California before I moved. The othe painting you can barely see are two originals from a cousin in law of my ex, very abstract and un framed. I do love my tiny dining area.

my $25 screen from Wayfair clearance. Cheapie artwork, from (as usual) Ashley. Furry blanket from Joss and Main I think around $25. And of course, Leo, in his favorite place, my bed :)

My beach house is full of consignment/thrift/flea market finds.

None of the below items cost more than $40.

I found these two green tables at two different places, on different days, but they're the same exact color. In our den/TV room. I kept the chippy paint because it just seemed right to.

This wall cabinet came with the house -- freebie. PO made the cabinet for his wife as an anniversary gift. It was in the kitchen but when we renovated, we had to find a new spot for it. It displays mostly "art" made by my kids when they were little.

High end purchase, LOL, from Target. Love these little Threshhold cabinets. We have a white one, too.

I love this thread! Our lake cabin was completely furnished (except for beds and major appliances) with CL, thrift store, bargain online shops and garage sale finds. I'm in the middle of finishing our Master Bedroom. Bought this CL headboard for 40.00, the wall lamps were 19.00 each. Small Nightstand was 10, larger one was 20. Yes, I had to paint all the pieces and add a backer board to the headboard, but I am really liking how it has come together.

The ceiling is slanted...that dang headboard is level!

I don't have the patience to shop for used furniture, but I have all the patience in the world to scour through the $5 and $10 tables at my local art studio open house. These are from there (the frames cost considerably more than the art).

These were from my daughter's middle school Christmas craft fair. The second one is framed weirdly because I couldn't bring myself to pay for custom framing (it's a weird shape) given how little I paid for the art.

omg! I am so in love with this, it is like having a family and home that i knew nothing about! every one please like yourself, there was too much! i only liked the last one but only do to convenience. the problem now is that in 1 day, it has gotten too long. so i just find some incredible buys right here on houzz-imagine that.! i am going to start a new thread, buy of the day and put a lead here.

Lots of incredible finds and art in this thread. I'm in awe. And of course I admire everybody who can actually do things..the furthest I ever got I think was a gallery wall ..I mean I clipped out the best pics out of one especially successful holiday catalog, and put them in different sized IKEA frames..and they were in our master bath..they were very fairy-tale-ish..:)

and even that kinda made me proud LOL.

My proud is actually putting the furniture together all by myself! Not all of course, but a fair amount. And I never set foot in a store, any store, I furnished this little place completely online. Some of the art I brought with me from California and my (ex) marriage. And some I bought here. Online lol. I did find an excellent handyman who did some great floor replacement when I had the awful leak that grew into mold back in April. It is becoming a very "mine" home, it is reflecting who I am. And that is good.

if i do another april i will try to tag it. it did not let me go back into edit. i love all this though. i just wanted to make sure everyone got a chance at those pillows! when i think about it i did score some things on craigs list. i bought 8 ft of 7ft tall shelves, many glass and wood doors, not to mention they were 24" deep! then we bought a sofa bed it was like an mcm couch. we got it for $50 and they gave us a free cabinet. we bought it because the kids were coming then liked it so much - even i could sit in it, we kept it as our couch.

Wow, such incredible finds and talent you all have in putting everything together. Can not wait to see the future threads related shoestring decorating.

April, I am in love your sofa. Your MIL must be crazy about it, that pink and velvet together are just perfect.

My most recent Craigslist finds have been patio furniture. Bought a new to us house almost 2 years ago. Much larger outdoor space, but very little money in the budget for patio furniture and of course I was looking for something durable and lasting. On Craigslist found O. W. Lee chaises for beside our pool at $60 each, they were priced at $1800 each at the patio store. Then a week later we found a patio table set that coordinates with our chaises for $200. The same set was over $5500 online, going blank on the brand. Both the chaises and the table were not perfect as they had been outside for a couple of years but they were in good condition, just needing cushions. We used them all last summer and this summer too. Hope to even make them better by getting them professionally refurbished in another year or two. Will share pictures later.

have I told you a story about milk?

I was already a teen and staying at my cousin's. So my aunt would say sometimes "the milk is too cold out of the fridge..put it on the table please, so it warms up"

or she would say "the milk is too hot right off the stove..put it on the table so it cools some"

so I 'm thinking hard and can't understand and in the end I decide to ask:

-Auntie, how come when milk is too hot I have to put it on the table, and when the milk is too cold I also have to put it on the table? Isn't it the same table?

jill thank you! my MIL is usually crazy about stones(including jewellery), birds, and china..:) less about furniture. but she loves that sofa for sure. she's a lounger just like me. She'll always curl or something..and that's a sofa that welcomes to do just that.

Speaking of patio furniture..we scored amazing patio furniture on Craigslit..fully refurbished and all..unfortunately stupid remodel took too long, old place was uncovered..I was afraid to kill that poor set so sold it on Craigslist too..half from what we bought it for since the fabric faded on one side..the ad was widely popular..I sold it to a very nice lady 2 hours after I put the ad up.

That was to say-I'll have to score another patio furniture..:) but probably after we're done with hardscaping, landscaping etc..unless I just stumble upon something irresistible like last time

I scored amazing patio furniture on Craigslist too. I purchased a set that originally came from Sam's Club and included 2 extra side tables for $300. The set included two chairs with ottomans, sofa, and coffee table. I had new cushions made which was expensive, but I love it. I used a company called replacement cushions.

The three county garage sale today. I got 2 sets of the perfect yellow Priscilla curtains. I didn't need them but new if I passed them by I'd regret it. $3 for two pair.

Got this old radio cabinet for $7

the top lifts off but there is no back. The old radio sat inside.

Needs cleaned up but I'm capable of doing that.

This little stand was marked $5 but I got it for $3.50

I think I spent about $15 on stuff I didn't need ;-)

I don't really shop much on CL, but we are on listservs for estate sales in person and online. We also like the antique mall, though I realize that might not be quite as cheap.

I also got a patio set from CL for DD, who was ecstatic. I actually emailed the seller how great a hit it was, and she replied how touched she was I provided feedback.

the problem-DH, he's an owl. he almost doesn't sleep through the week. It's quite scary actually. so he sleeps late on weekends. by the time he's up we're late to everything..or to everything good...:)

of course sometimes we still go, but it's never the same as when actually being there early

oh i forgot! a few years ago, we were at an out of town goodwill, there were these really high end patio chairs from i guess 60s? has that coated fabric they made, arms and legs are 3" thick. but yet the wood is one of those outdoor ones that feel very light. the cushions were like 5" thick, and it was at the perfect height so i could sit and not feel uncomfortable. $5 each!!!! my hubby could not fit in our diminutive car with me, so he took one and went back, ended up with 6 for $30!!! love that set! unfortunately got a wicker table to go with it, glass was too expensive, any ideas? it is 30" and oval.

i am going to ask houzz for our own spot. everyone should.sometimes stubborness, determination and plain old nagging can do wonders with the ones above. i will comeback with the thread i create so all can chime in.

Great idea arcy..I just don't drive anymore. I don't drive since my (in)famous accident, a really silly one, that was in 2008. What I can share from it .That others might find useful. Don't act all heroic and go to work when your doctor tells you you've got a concussion and tells you to be in bed for a week minimum.

Yeah I didn't miss that week. I missed so much more though.

it's okay though, if we do have something important DH will be up and ready of course:) I just feel bad waking him up

Love seeing everyone's thrifty finds and wanted to share my daughters summer project, turning someone's trash into her treasure. Pulled this desk and chair out of a neighbors trash in the dark of night, crammed it into a Toyota Camry, her Dad fixed a couple of broken pieces and I upholstered the chair seat, everything else was all her. Before and after and at her college apartment. Great job Allison!

yes, it is an odd thing imhappy, i feel nearly the same about garden web? i was on it a number of years ago, then i was not gardening for a while so i left. I did not know they had grown so much! at first it was hard to get to. then there was the election and all that and everyone said i must go there, so i went, they were so very very mean, that i said never again. now i stay on houzz and since i recently discovered an easy way to home decorating i go there. although last week it was in both places.

my problem is i do n ot know where to go on your side. just on my mine.? but if you had a shoe string area and told me - in case i missed it. i would go all the time! i am a houzz addict!

You can also add me to the list of others who enjoy finding a good bargain, then personalizing it. You can call it getting-your-creative-on, a diy, recycling, upcycling, whatever, but I find it stimulating and challenging giving something a do-over! The idea of a specific forum for such things is fantastic! We can only hope.

I re-did this cabinet for youngest DD/DH when they moved into their last home. It was a mahogany finish to begin with, now it's ivory, a light taupe, with antique gold highlighting moldings. They use it as a bar cabinet.

april, i love that color chart you put up, i do not know how to save it in a usable form. ok i have a wacky question. i grew up knowing that certain colors go together and some don't since being here, it seems all colors go together, though i am still not excited about gray and brown. anybody know any colors that don't go to gether?
