I would hang on curtains, that is all you need.

Maybe a natural linen color for drapes?

Take down the framed art and the shelves and leave them down. Add curtains and that's it for the walls behind the sofa.

Here's a rule: never hang art where it doesn't have room to breathe. Same with your little shelves.
