I will resist the impulse to "pile on". There is an attractive alternative to a tile shower...with a mid-level price point..."cultured marble" panels...US Marble or Onyx. Tear out this mess and go with something you can afford. We see this ALL the time here on Houzz. I'm sorry you made this mistake, now learn from it.

we are going to tear it down and have it re-done at this point. Do you think pulling the tiles off of the wall now will mean we need to re-waterproof? not sure how much damage it does to remove tile. Adding a few photos below

Looking at the wall color and texture I will take a stab that this is in CA and these workers were found outside Home Depot.

These people do not have the education and understanding of how to use modern tiling products. This is shown by them spot setting your tiles and their attempt to cut and install glass tile. Hire licensed legal tile setters. You would have been done and probably paid the same that you will now.

I hate to laugh but the waterproofing just confirms my argument that people are doing installs with products they have no idea to use. Total gut to studs at this point.
