I second that....;-). My English neighbor uses a recipe from the Joy of Cooking which is quite good. The lard helps a lot. It is becoming more popular these days. I saw lard in a jar at Target just the other day.

I am using a mix of butter and olive oil; but truly, my pie crust abilities really suck. The custard and the meringue are classic cooking skills.

The result? The flavor was perfect; the crust, not too bad for a beginner; the meringue nearly perfect; the custard a little under cooked. I will get better.

Even if you had the recipe, I'll bet you'd only be able to get close. Never quite the same as what mom made.
