Help after to much sun

Ok. I was trusted with the care of a no id from my nephew who is deployed. I was gone from home and my husband knocked it off the cabinet and knocked it out or the pot, he then put it all outside where the plant became very sunburned before I arrived home to find it. the leaves that were not mush were limp. I brought it in and took a couple leaves to try and start, watered and re potted the plant. Should I place it in a ziplock? The crown was still firm an it had a couple of leaves on it but it looks bad. Any ideas on saving this plant. Has a lot of meaning because it is the one that survived West Point and a car ride back to Oklahoma.

You can just lightly cover it with a peace of plastic.

Are you sure that your husband didn't kick it around the yard for 10-15 minutes? Will you trust him to be alone with the plant without supervision? 8-((

Whatever you are doing - is going to correct the problem. But it will take an ungodly amount of time. So think about purchasing something similar just in case. Just keep looking at the AVs in Home Depot.

Please forgive my teasing - I just couldn't stop myself.

HaHaHa -- Irina you need to be writing a Dear Irina column in my local newspaper, lol!

Did he actually tell you what happened in a panic??? or was it one of those "oh yeah, you found it? Well here is what happened so I just set it over there." hmmm, methinks hubby needs a time out! lol At any rate, sounds like you are doing all you can do to save it. Good luck! Rosie

Rosie, was something like that. Yep you found it and it was not with its buddies. Irina I have not trusted him with my green babies in a very long time, and he might have kicked around the yard looks pretty sad. So since I had to make a Lowes run I ended up with 11 new orchids. They did not have any Violets.

I doubt you can convince your nephew, look...it was really an orchid just waiting to mature.

Well I started him by giving Amaryllis for his birthday when he was small.

And I applaud you, my grandmothers (std and greats) started me on my path to gardening corruption. My parents didn't really understand it...but allowed it to be.

Julia you don't really want to guess how I knew what happened, do you? I have had that scenario played out over here many times. I am the only one who cares about my plants. When Logan (2 yr. old dog) was a puppy he thought my plants on the bottom shelf were his to play with and shake til I don't know what! OH do you think it mattered that I had a baby gate in front of that area that kept him out???? Do you think anyone but me would keep that gate up when they went in and out of that room???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Surprisingly I don't have high blood pressure. But it is not the puppy I wanted to beat it was the HUMANS!!!!! Logan is growing out of that phase now but it seems as long as what is ruined doesn't belong to them,,,,,it just doesn't matter! Man,,,there are days! So THAT is how I knew exactly what happened! Rosie

PS. For all their faults, I still love the humans I live with,,,OH and Logan also.

Rosie, admit it...you considered rehoming those humans.

    Many, many times!!!! lol Rosie

Oh I am so here with you. I can't tell you how many times I hear "I didn't know the kids couldn't play with those". Really? You really think a living plant in a pot is an appropriate toddler toy? C'mon, at least be honest that you weren't paying attention.

Yep! I have 2 girls pushing 50yrs, who are grown and gone, and 2 grandsons in their mid 20's that live with me and let me tell you......there are too many males in this house! Heaven help if something happens to THEIR precious belongings,,,,but MINE??? well, that is another story. Logan is a male also and Mia is a female. At least she is on my side! She is 9yrs. and tears up and destroys NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! She doesn't even chase a ball ! What a good dog! Rosie

Lets get the priorities straight - husband is the very best AV you could ever have. Keep feeding and grooming him. Kids will grow... eventually ... hopefully ... and will create more non-AV related trouble. And pets cannot rich the top shelf. As long as you do not have a pet monkey or a free flying parrot.

Hm...that moment when you realize that your husband might be a NOID. :)

Yeah, but at least he is MY noid !

Guys - I lost my husband in March - and there is nothing I wouldn't give away to have him with me. Half of my life.. so we could be together till the last breath.

I feel for you Irina. I hope you're adjusting as best you can. I've never been married, but i do know what it's like to be alone (for that very reason).

Irina, it's been 8 years since my DH passed - just observed that anniversary 2 weeks ago - and I know just what you are saying. I think forever I will feel like half of me is missing...but we go on, don't we?

I know it's hard to think of when your man does something thoughtless (esp. when, horror of horrors, one of your precious plants is damaged) but you really would not want to be without him. Now, go give him a hug. :-)

March is a very recent loss. I hope you have been finding peace and solace with the help of your friends, family and violets, Irina.

To all of you,,,,non of these comments were designed for anything more than lighthearted fun,

My husband turned 72 last May. Just this morning he seemed a little too still so I stood there to make sure he was still breathing. He is.

I understand what all of you are saying. I wasn't thinking about my comments impacting anyone as they did. My apologies. Rosie

PS. Last night, with no one home but the dogs, 2 different songs played on my computer. (I was listening to music) As usual, both invoked heavy sobbing. Once for my mother and once for my dad. Just one more day,,,,,,,,,,,.

Yes, I still grieve for my mother, who passed 9/28/2013. And when on a tv show someone dies, I tend to tear up.

    Thank you, my friends.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Irina.

I recall you speaking of your DH's plane in a garage project.

May God cause His face to shine upon you ... and give you peace ...

Talked to you guys... and went to the Fort Logan Veterans cemetery for a good cry. It helped.

It is hard.. Plus the house is missing him too... the list of things that managed to fail in the house is a mile long...dishwasher -toilet tank - sprinklers -dishwasher- garage door - dishwasher - TV - microwave- AC - lawn mower -sprinklers again...

House without my DH is a hopeless mess...

Waiting for a new sprinkler guy on Monday. May be...

    I.

    Very creative! Enjoyed that Julia.

And Irina hope things worked out today with sprinklers!

Np spinklers repair on Sunday... still waiting...

OMG...My days have all run together. Today is...only Tuesday???

    MY SPRINKLERS NOW WORK!!!

Irina, you can go sprinkle something now....umm yeah.

Julia, that was very well put. What a great analogy! And today is Wednesday!!! All day!!! Until midnight!!! lol HOORAY for Irina's sprinklers!!!!!!!!! HAHA!!!! Life is good!!!!!!!!! Glass 1/2 full !!!! Rosie

    Julia -

What was the color of the damaged violet? I am thinking - it was probably a store bought violet - so as a group - we can work on finding you the one.

The blooms were pale pink. Light green leaves no red to leaf. I would and have looked local but it was not tagged as a Optimara. Will see if my girls have a picture. They would send blooming updates. I think I pit down a leaf but until it blooms I am not certain.

Optimaras are not the only name in town at local garden centers. :-) Maybe with something a little more descriptive than what shows in a photo would help. Somewhere on the Optmara site I printed out pages with leaf and flower characteristics along with pics, such as quilted, serrated, scalloped, pansy, star, ovate, heart shaped... With a better description I could try searching for some characteristics in the database of registered AVs. Who knows, it could be a registered variety.

Wow, this string is a roller coaster to read. I laughed out loud about "does that mean my husband is a NOID?" Too funny.

And then so sorry about the losses. I lost my father in law about 6 years ago. We now live in his old house, and whenever I grow plants, I think of him, because he really taught me a lot about growing outdoor, which I have taken indoor. So it's actually very cool. And the way I look at it, someday I will see him again but for now he's rooting for me from above. Although I swear he's played a few practical jokes on us in the last few years. :)

Irina- I think that lost loved ones would like for us to succeed. They had their time to be here, now it's ours. We have such a short life on this earth anyway, enjoy each day as much as you can and honor those we care about, but do a really good job living now. It seriously helps if you're spiritual and believe that God is with you always, so you are never alone. I forgot that for many years, and now I realize I was a numnut to not acknowledge God and to pray.

So now I have around 65 plants indoors, and I care for them how I would like to be cared for, if I were a plant. Lol. Maybe its because I believe the saying, Bloom Where You Are Planted. :)

Lily - it is so true.

Apparently my husband didn't read "Bloom where you are planted" 101. We have been here 30 years. NOW he wants to pull me up by the roots and plant me in a single story house instead of this farmhouse. I told him the only reason he is thinking that is because he needs BOTH knees done and won't do it!!!! Big chicken,,,,,never spent a minute in a hospital and only goes by all of my many operation adventures ! AND because I had nerve/leg issues when mine were done! Weeelllll, don't punish ME because you have trouble going up stairs ! No No No No AND NO!!!!

5 acres, no traffic, paved road, 7 miles from store upon store, farmland all around, birds, toads, frogs, critters, 1/2 acre pond in the fenced in side yard, 2 dogs,,,,I mean heck !!!! Why would we give all that up to go live in some gated place or condo where they can tell me what to do! (No disrespect to those who live in them,,,,it is just NOT for us) And he says that on a regular basis. So I just nod and smile again and again and he is quiet for a while. Til his knees hurt again!! <:D Gotta love him! Rosie

I wouldn't move (if I were in your shoes) Rosie...I *am* in town because of circumstances now...but I prefer the country life.

Summer home = farmhouse in Michigan

Winter home = condo in Florida

    or

    Upstairs = Rosie

    Downstairs = hubby

    or

    Stairs = Rosie

    Stair elevator = hubby

    or

    Pulley system = hubby

    or

    Crane = hubby

OK I hear you, didn't think so either.

Ohhhh funny dviolet! I don't intend to dig up my looooong taproot and replant it. I often tell him when I leave here it will be in a pine box.

I understand dbarron, if there is absolutely NO other choice because of one of us,,,well,,,we will see. I guess I cannot even finish that sentence with certainty!

Besides this is all paid for. Who wants to buy something and have another mortgage? Not me. And really for all his talk, he doesn't want to either. Maybe I will just give him a little more fertilizer. hee hee! Rosie

We need to understand that gals are capable to endure more pain than the guys. It is mother nature way to ensure that the next generation is born. A woman in a normal labor loses 700 cc of blood - it is way more than enough to kill a man.

Guys have much higher pain sensitivity... so what you endured with all your surgeries... would be an intolerable torture for DH. They are just not made stoic.

I hope you will talk your DH into knee replacements - because otherwise - even in a single level home he will end in a wheelchair. There is no way the knee will heal itself - that's what my orthopedic doctor told me - when you cannot take the pain anymore - you do replacement.

I tell you - losing weight helps to postpone it. I need to lose more. Knee is better - but now it is a hip joint. Getting old is no joke.

Oh Irina, don't think I don't try. He is just afraid, so I will patiently wait. Rosie
