Hanging one massive unique light would be amazing

I would remove the light above the door and either add a couple attractive sconces on either side of the door or recessed lighting from the entry to the stair landing. A wider chandelier over the stairs would also look amazing hanging a bit closer to the ceiling.

My old house had 2 pendants in the entry/stairwell. I replaced the entry one with a larger pendant, and installed a surface-mount LED that looks a lot like a recessed can over the stairwell. That way, I had the illumination we needed, but the focal point was the new larger pendant only. Something like this disk light that connects directly to junction boxes. If you don't require the illumination by that door, I'd cap it as Porter recommends. HTH.

I would do a nice one on the right and just go to a low-profile flushmount or recessed fixture on the left -- I think you'd still want more light up there.
