Vanity mirror and light replacement position.

I'm looking for advice. We are doing a complete bathroom reno. Everything here is being redone. The cabinets are being replaced with the same configuration due to space.

I'm looking for help with replacing the mirror and lights. Would ideally like a mirror in front of each sink.

Currently there are 2 lights (not centered with the sink) that are installed on the mirror. What type of mirror & lights would work with this configuration, and should they be centered on the wall or with the sink?

Should I go with the same type of mirror, just shorter? Maybe a lit mirror?

I have a few recessed lighting in the ceiling, but will need more.

Sconces on each side of the mirrors would be pretty. You could even do a center tower if you need more storage.

Will you be papering the new bathroom?

Hmmm there really isn’t room for a sconce on the right side of sink by the door. Do you have to have 2 sinks? Is your homes style very traditional? What cabinet style are you doing?

Lastly, are you and your partner bumping behinds if both at the sinks at the same time?

A medicine cabinet centered on each sink will be best. The medicine cabinets can be lighted if you plan on putting the decorative wallpaper after the renovation is completed.

@thinkdesignlive if they reno the whole set up, the electrical box can be adjusted as can be the sink placement. Even with a ready made corner vanity, you can do a custom countertop with under mount sinks and adjust the location as needed.

There are 2 sinks, yes. We have plenty of room when we're both there, but can't fit a tower without taking up too much of our counter space.

Just plan on painting, no wall paper as of yet.

Two suggestions for medicine cabinets instead of regular mirrors. Interesting... Never thought about that.

The layout will stay the same for the vanity unfortunately, it's just the way that room is built and shaped.

Can I offset the sinks on the counter?? Don't they need to be centered above the bottom cabinets?

If you can recess the medicine cabinets and have them lighted that would be best. Robern makes very nice ones - pricey but very nice. Lyn I understand the process but the inches available don’t seem to offer much with 2 sinks as shown. You wouldn’t want to have the sinks off center from the cabinet it’s in - nor be closer together towards the corner which would place the people that much closer to each other when both in use.

you have plenty of counterspace left if you add a tower similar to the lower drawer base.

you could even keep if off the counter and just have a center upper. Lots of wall height.

Maybe something like this would work for you.

This all comes down to the inches you have. What is the overall length of each leg? Try using blue tape and layout over your current mirror 2 scenarios based on actual product you find - select a medicine cabinet (you need the storage) and a mirror (the mirror would assume a corner tower because again you need the storage). I personally don’t like corner towers for what they do in terms of compartmentalizing your 2 sides. It will make each side feel smaller. Open shelves just look cluttered but you will find that by going with 2 smaller mirrors or medicine cabinets that the corner will feel ‘bare’. Emily’s image shows a large floral arrangement to try to counter this but is that something you would actually do? Try the blue tape to get a feel for it. Jehanz you haven’t mentioned if you are open to going down to one sink? You’ve ruled this out? This bathroom I worked on years ago had a limited footprint so the client went with a trough type sink with 2 faucets and a large medicine cabinet. However, this overall length was about 58-60”. Again, it all comes down to the inches you have. Try the blue tape which will help you visualize it.

Note: The above scenario was custom (in order to make that particular sink work with maximized drawer space). Also, this particular client could not do sconces or lighted mirrors due to eye issues so the custom solution was to hide tape light behind a custom wood frame detail surrounding the triple medicine cabinet. Since the vanity was sandwiched between 2 walls one would never see the sides….I’m not suggesting this medicine cabinet / light detail for you - just to show you that you could significantly increase your storage and maybe still have 2 faucets if you think outside the box of what you currently have.
