Living room design help

Having completed the majority of my apartment, ive found I'm not too keen on my living room anymore and feel the decor no longer works. It's a neautral pallett with splashes of red with African inspired accents. Please give any advice or tips on improving this space

Your floors, pine chest and fireplace tile are the bones of the room.

    Walls: B.M Balboa Mist
Do purple accents, in stead of red. See Lion canvas for inspiration.
    Replace coffee table.

Remove rug…you really don’t need one in that small space.

Replace drapery panels with a valance…much lighter and brighter.

My first thought is that there is too much clutter in the room and I'd remove all the decor and then slowly put back what you can't do without. What looks like brocade wallpaper doesn't fit the tribal look at all; it's too elegant. I would lighten the room with lighter colored drapes and a much larger rug, maybe an Oriental tribal-type rug, not too dark in color that goes well with the drapes. The pillows on the couches look very drab. I would choose new ones that pick up some of the colors of the rug once you've chosen one. The rug should be large enough to at least have the front legs of the furniture under it.

Thanks so much for the inspiration a lot to think about.. do you think lighter curtains too? As these are a bright red with flower pattern.Going to definitely take it all out and start again, and find some more wallpaper. Judy I love that coffee table thank you!

I think I've confused this space even more, by replacing the black wall fire with this one... I feel like gutting this entire room now such a mess and clash of things

Only problem with lighter curtains is my living room faces a busy street

Poor lighting at the moment for the pictures, bedroom is very warm with browns, Metallics and blues, and the kitchen bathroom toilet dining room are all grey palettes. Hall at the moment which hasn't been done is in a cream colour. The living room is very different to the other rooms will have to find what works but would hate to have to get rid of the African peices as it reminds me of my home and family, just to try tie it all in now. I love the rug of the first picture! Do you think I should begin by changing the wallpaper, pillows, drapes and rug and work from there? Due to the new fireplace I was thinking of painting my sideboards cream to tie it all in better but leave the top of it in pine like this photo? Such great ideas thank you - giving me hope this room can be pleasent

Maybe you could do a sort of boho look and incorporate the masks? I think that would look nice! The first picture is boho. When looking at online photos think about swapping out some of the decor and putting the masks in their place. If you did a boho design you could keep the wallpaper if you wanted...if you like it. If not, start stripping. Realistically though you will have more options with it gone.

I think you should begin by finding a room you like online. And, as suggested above take all decor out for now. Once you find your inspiration room you will know what new or new to you items to add and what old stuff to incorporate,

If you're calling the pine piece to the left of the fireplace a sideboard - PLEASE don't paint it - it's beautiful as is and adds warmth and texture to the room.
