I bought a pack of Peony tubers earlier this year from Lowes and planted them. This dark red maroon shaped plant started popping up and leaves started to grow, but then it halted and didn't grow anymore until maybe July. I figured it was simply a peony shoot popping up and it maybe mutated or something for it to stay red.

Well...then I noticed it started growing up further in July and all of a sudden flowers were blooming! That's when I figured it's not a peony. It almost looks like some tropical plant.

Any ideas on what this plant is? It is beautiful.
