Thank you, stanofh. My plant is still on our porch and the temps are dippinig into the upper 50s during the night. Most of the time the temp stays in the 60s during the night but we are getting down into the 50s a couple times a week now. I will be bringing the plant inside before the first frost, but want to leave it out there as long as I can.

In 1998 28f was the coldest mine has seen..and it did singe some foliage. I remember being told that local B.guatemalensis were done in by the 1992 freeze- with the B,recurvatas making it.

I know this question doesn’t pertain to cold weather but I’m really needing some help with my Ponytail Palm tree.

Can someone tell me why the top is a lot lighter than the rest of the tree, why is that? Also, I’m so confused on watering my tree. I’ve noticed that the ends will turn white and sometimes the ends will be brown, why is this? I’m sure it has something to do with watering my tree and that is also something I’m not good at is knowing when to water them. I’m scared I’ll give it too much water. Please help!! Thank you

Mine is usually lighter after I've had it in all winter with less light. When I bring it outside I try to acclimate it to brighter light. In terms of watering in hotter weather it can take more water I try to keep it dryer when it's colder. Think of it as a desert plant in terms of its water needs in my opinion. Certainly a good soaking if it hasn't been watered for a while and hotter weather. When it's inside in the winter I sometimes don't water it at all or give it a dribble.

Sounds like its chlorotic. I've seen that slight pale look on mine outdoors. I toss a handful of fertilizer and water well and it returns to green.

Brown tips indoors is always dry air on plants that can't keep up.

HU Maybe your Pony tail palm isnt getting enough sun. That’s what usually happens when the top is taller than the rest of the palm it’s reaching for the sun

My pony tail palm loves being under the frapevine during summer and like the dappled sunlight and shaded spot. new leaves tend to be a brighter green but not white.
