When open, the dishwasher door hits the fridge. Help!

Our condo, built in 1970, has an odd kitchen layout that we have to live with: basically, when the dishwasher door is fully opened, it bashes into the side of the counter-depth fridge. We can't move the fridge, so what we really need is a stainless steel dishwasher that has a shorter door than usual. The old dishwashers had machinery at the bottom, so the doors actually hinged about 6 inches above the floor. The newer models hinge AT the floor, so they are longer than their predecessors. Ideas??
